Double infinitive constructions
The verbs sehen (to see), hören (to hear), and lassen (to let) can be used alone or in combination with other verbs. Contrast the sentences, Ich sehe dich. Ich höre dich. Ich lasse dich in Ruhe, with the sentences, Ich sehe dich kommen. Ich höre dich singen. Ich lasse dich schlafen.
Present tense: Ich sehe dich. vs. Ich sehe dich kommen.Simple past: Ich sah dich. vs. Ich sah dich kommen.
Perfect tense: Ich habe dich gesehen. vs. Ich habe dich kommen sehen.
The verb lassen in combination with other verbs:
The verb lassen can be used with the infinitives of other verbs. Its meaning can range form 'to have something done,' to 'to make somebody do something,' to 'to allow somebody to do something.' Thus, depending on the context, the sentence, Sie ließen uns einen Vertrag unterschreiben can mean 'they had us sign a contract,' 'they made us sign a contract,' or 'they permitted us to sign a contract'.

Examples sentences:
- Ich lasse mein Auto reparieren. (I have my car repaired.)
- Sie lässt sich einmal pro Monat die Haare schneiden. (She gets her hair cut once a month.)
- Der Trainer ließ die Sportler drei Stunden trainieren. (The coach had the athlets train for three hours.)
- Sie lässt ihren Sohn ihr Auto benutzen. (She allows her son to use her car.)
